Audio Engineering

Artifact #1

This year as freshmen we do a Passion Project where we discover our passions. My passion is Audio Engineering and Gospel Music. While working on my Passion Project I got the chance to Job Shadow in a studio in Nashville. Here’s the story:

It just so happened to be, that the same time that I was working on my Passion Project my cousin was also in Nashville recording her new Album. She got to talking one day with one of her Vocal Engineers, Joe Carrel, and she mentioned me and he asked if I would come job shadow him for a few days. And I couldn’t deny it! My dad and I traveled up to Nashville March 18th and 19th to Job Shadow him. After school on the 17th, me and my dad traveled up to Nashville. The next day we woke up and walked to the Studio that Joe was working at that day, Spirit Music Publishing and Studios was its name. I arrived at the studio at 9am. That first day I got the tour around and then I took my seat in the Control Room where Joe and his assistant, Lucas, were working to mix songs for a new album by Doug Anderson. Doug Anderson is a well known artist in the Southern Gospel Industry, mostly known for singing with Ernie Haase and Signature Sounds. But that day we sat in the studio and I watched and gave input as Joe Mixed the song “Thorns” that is on the album. About 5:00 it was time to go and me and my dad drove all around Nashville seeing all the sights. The next day we got to the studio again at 9am. We were working on the song “Remember That He Loves You,” but today Joseph Habedank was coming into the studio to record vocals for a demo of a song that he wrote and going to send to Reba! It was great to get to sit down and talk with Joseph Habedank. It was weird to get to talk to sit down and talk to someone one who you had been listening to for YEARS. The best part of the trip was getting to watch them as they record the vocals and the harmony parts. To end a great trip, my cousin Brooke (who talked to Joe) and her family who she sings with, were traveling through Nashville on the way to a concert in Illinois. So they stopped and had dinner with us on the last day!

Here are the songs I worked on while in Nashville:
